  3. Select Effects(tm) Digital Library Sampler

  6. The ten clips listed in two directories on this CD-ROM (MOVIES.MOV,
  7. MOVIES.AVI)) are a sampling from Volume 1 of a new collection of 
  8. digital video clips available for Macintosh(r) computers using 
  9. QuickTime(tm) and Intel-based computers running QuickTime for
  10. Windows(tm) or Microsoft Video for Windows(tm).

  12. Select Effects is a high-quality animation graphic effects library, 
  13. the result of years of innovative leadership in animation technique 
  14. and creative design. This library is uniquely designed to help 
  15. creatively strengthen and enhance the production values of your 
  16. multimedia projects.

  18. CASCOM International is a world-wide supplier of broadcast-video 
  19. special effects and stock footage. The Select Effects library spans 
  20. more than five thousand effects ranging from 1-second wipes to 60-
  21. second full-motion backgrounds.

  23. Each of the stills represented on this CD-ROM has a full-motion 
  24. video equivalent in the Cascom archives. And many of these videos 
  25. are part of Cascom's Select Effects tape library.

  27. A multi-volume set of CD-ROMs, each volume featuring 100 digital 
  28. Select Effects clips and dozens of music beds and audio effects, 
  29. are now available for your Macintosh or multimedia PC computer. 
  30. These CD-ROMs have been professionally produced by Toucan Studios 
  31. of Cupertino, California, for CASCOM using state-of-the-art video 
  32. digitizing hardware, and software. The results are some of the most 
  33. visually stunning digital video clips available.

  35. The sample clips on this CD-ROM are provided to demonstrate this 
  36. premiere resource for stock effects clips which can be used with 
  37. your favorite digital video editing software. Please use these ten 
  38. clips as prototyping materials, experimenting with both them and 
  39. the features of your editor software. If you like these clips and

  47. THE CLIPS

  49. The sampler clips in the MOVIES_M directory are processed using 
  50. CinePak compression in a screen size of 320 x 240 at 15 fps.  These cross-
  51. platform movies minimally require QuickTime 1.6.1 for Macintosh or 
  52. QuickTime 1.1.1 for Windows. QuickTime version 2.0 for Macintosh 
  53. and Windows is recommended. You will need the player application 
  54. to view these movies. QuickTime for Windows 2.0 is located on this disc in
  55. the QUIKTIME directory. ReadMe files in that directory explain all the
  56. installation steps. Setup.Exe installers are found in this directory.

  58. The sampler clips in the MOVIES_A directory are also processed 
  59. using CinePak compression in a screen size of 320 x 240 at 15 fps. The 
  60. AVI video files in the VFW directory require Microsoft Video for 
  61. Windows 1.1 or later. You will need the player application to 
  62. view these movies. Video for Windows 11D is located on this disc in the
  63. VFW11D directory. ReadMe files in that directory explain all the
  64. installation steps. Setup.Exe installers are found in this directory.

  66. YOU ONLY NEED TO INSTALL ONE VIEWER, EITHER QUICKTIME FOR
  67. WINDOWS, OR VIDEO FOR WINDOWS.

  69. These sample clips have been produced so they will run in 256-colors, 
  70. thousands of colors, and millions of colors, but are optimized for display 
  71. on computers capable of thousands of colors. Please see the appropriate 
  72. documentation for your system on how to select the best color capability.

  74. As part of any complete video, the Select Effects library enhances 
  75. the digital video work you produce. If still frames are captured, 
  76. they can be the springboard for complete works of art.

  79. THE SELECT EFFECTS VOLUMES╤╤
  80.  
  81. Each complete Select Effects volume consists of a 2 CD-ROM set 
  82. containing 100 royalty-free visual effect clips and dozens of 
  83. royalty-free music and sound-effect tracks. Each volume also 
  84. contains a cross-platform visual database application which allows 
  85. you to find and preview the right effects for your projects.

  87. Select Effects clips are processed in several formats, giving you 
  88. the most flexibility and highest quality possible. Each effect is 
  89. provided in two QuickTime for Windows formats and one Video for 
  90. Windows format. The QuickTime for Windows formats are JPEG and 
  91. CinePak, and the Video for Windows format is CinePak. The effects 
  92. are also provided in 2 sizes; 320 x 240, and 160 x 120.

  94. The smaller clips (160 x 120 pixels) are designed to act as a 
  95. visual index to the larger clips. They do not require being copied 
  96. to you hard disk in order to be viewed. These clips play at normal 
  97. speed when used with QuickTime (Windows and Macintosh versions), or 
  98. Video for Windows, from a dual speed CD-ROM player or your hard 
  99. disk drive.  They have been compressed using CinePak compression 
  100. and saved in both MOV and AVI file formats.

  102. The larger clips (320 x 240 pixels) are compressed frame-by-frame 
  103. using maximum quality Apple Photo JPEG compression in the MOV file 
  104. format. They are designed to be copied to your hard disk, edited 
  105. using your favorite QuickTime editor, then compressed and saved for 
  106. viewing using your choice of QuickTime compression schemes.

  108. As JPEG files, they are not designed to play at their full 15 fps 
  109. directly from the CD-ROM.  However, the visual quality of each 
  110. frame of digital video is superior, and provides you with the most 
  111. flexibility.

  113. The larger clips (320 x 240 pixels) also appear as files compressed 
  114. with VIDEO 1 in the AVI file format. These are appropriate for 
  115. Video for Windows users, since Video for Windows does not currently 
  116. offer a JPEG compressor. These are designed to be used with your 
  117. favorite Video for Windows editor, then compressed and saved for 
  118. viewing using your choice of Video for Windows compression schemes.

  120. The music and sound effects on each volume are provided in two 
  121. formats; AIFF and WAV. Each music and sound effect is digitized at 
  122. 22KHz, in 16-bit Stereo.
